ST. ROSE OF LIMA SCHOOL

LUNCH PROGRAM

Lunch Card Order Form

Dear Parents,

The 2008-2009 Lunch Program will begin on Monday, September 8th.  We are happy to announce that our program is in place for the new school year. We have an exciting lunch menu with a variety of and healthy items to choose from. Once again, along with our daily menu, we will offer a “Salad Bar” with fresh salad, vegetables, fruit and yogurt for your children to enjoy. Our salad bar will be available Monday through Thursday. There will be no salad bar on Friday.

For those of you unfamiliar with our lunch program, lunches are available for purchase on all full school days. Lunches will include an entrée with some sort of dessert. (fruit cocktail, peaches, Jello, pudding etc). We will also have fresh carrots and celery daily. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches will be available each day as an alternative to the main entrée. Your child can also purchase the “Salad Bar” as an entree. If your child would like the salad bar with lunch it is a punch from the single entree card (green) or they can give us a dollar on the day they come through the lunch line.

In addition to our lunch menu, we also have a “Snack Area” with various snacks and drinks available for purchase. We will offer:

           Variety of chips - $0.50          Hot pretzels - $0.50                    Bottled water - $0.50

           Drinks - $0.50                        Fresh cookies - $0.50                 Various snacks - $0.50

Anyone wishing to buy lunch MUST purchase a lunch card using the attached Lunch Card Order Form. LUNCHES WILL ONLY BE GIVEN OUT BY THE CARD SYSTEM. Lunch prices are as follows:

           20-lunch card (white card) - includes entrée/dessert/vegetables                                  $50.00

10 single-entrée card (green card) - allows children to purchase extra items

such as a second slice of pizza, hamburger, salad bar added to lunch etc.                $10.00

Lunch cards will be punched each day. If your child does not have a green card, and they have signed up for an extra item, they may pay $1.00 for the additional green-card item during their lunch period. We keep all lunch cards in grade order in a filing system in the cafeteria. This should prevent having lost cards.

We will do our best to inform your child when your child’s card is getting low, but we need your help. We ask that you also keep track of the number of lunches your child signs up for so they may purchase a new card before running out. Your child sees the cards and knows when they are getting low on punches. Please listen to your children when they tell you they only have a few punches left. Send in the checks to avoid pulling them out of line.

NO SIGN UP!  WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Signing up for lunch is important! The children are asked to sign up for lunch each morning after prayers. Signing up in the morning is necessary because it gives us a count of how many actual lunch items we need to order and prepare. If a child comes down for lunch and says, “I forgot to sign up!”, your child will only get peanut butter and jelly. (The only exception will be if the teacher tells us your child missed sign-up because they were asked to be somewhere else).

NO LUNCH CARD! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The lunch card is important and necessary because the children only have a short period for lunch and trying to deal with the problem of no lunch card is difficult and time consuming for all parties involved. If your child tells us, “I don’t have a lunch card”, your child will get peanut butter and jelly if they did not bring lunch for that day. They will have to bring lunch from home until a new card is issued and in our files. Leftover punches from last years cards will be carried over to this year.

Please understand these rules and procedures are necessary for the Lunch Program to run smoothly. With close to 300 children arriving for paid lunches within a short span of time, we need your help and cooperation to be sure there are no surprises or disappointments. We ask that you review this with your child to be sure they understand the importance of signing up in the morning and the importance of having a lunch card.
